Plein Air Painting - Sunday, June 13; Saturday, June 19

Instructor:   Anne Weiler-Brown

Bring your paints and portable easel for a day of observation and painting in plein air.
Known for her abstract impressionist landscapes based on field studies, Anne will focus on
painting the Escalante/Grand Staircase landscape from direct study.  Students will begin
indoors with a quick introduction, then go directly on location via a car caravan.  Demonstrations
and critiques will be made with water mixable oils as the chief medium, although watercolor will
  also have personal instruction.

Learn how to interpret the subject, color mixing, values, use plein air equipment, and see in

terms of mass and form rather than detail and line.  Bring a camera as we'll discuss the benefits

and drawbacks of photo references. In the field, special emphasis will be placed on how to

select an image and organize and simplify the overwhelming amount of information in the

 landscape.

This is a perfect class for those who want to begin painting outdoors, as well as advanced

painters who want to refresh their skills.  Please bring a sack lunch as we will be out all day.

Participants must be 16 years and older.  Suggested materials list will be emailed well in

 advance of class.

Location:  Meet at The Gallery at Clarke's in Tropic and depart via automobile to various

 locations.
