Artist Statement
Within the context of wilderness and humanness, these paintings seek to place meaning on what I see as privilege. It is an inner meaning, which honors wildness, the mystery, the vastness, the matter and substance.
Artist Biography
Of French-Irish Canadian descent, Estelle Roberge is a native of Maine currently living and teaching art in New Mexico. She studied at the Portland School of Art and the University of Southern Maine, gaining a foundation in the arts, including photography. She has also taught art here in the schools in Tropic, UT.
Heading West in 1992, she taught art in Arizona, then received an MFA in Painting at Idaho State University. The desert spoke to her: "The desert is seen as barren and a wasteland. To me, there's beauty. It's always changing. It's constantly becoming something else." A great walker, she finds inspiration for her abstract paintings in the landscape and rock formations.
