Artist Statement
In creating art, I explore the space and rhythm of the scenic pastoral farmland and majestic mountains, employing vivid strokes with rich color and paint. I am evoking the inner feelings of what I sense visually in the world about me. What my eyes see, stirs a desire to respond with my brush, to render images of beauty from nature and subtleties of my surroundings.
Biography
Carol Johansen prefers to paint directly from life. Recovering from a horse riding mishap, she realized it was time to take up painting seriously. She paints in her free time before and after school, and eagerly awaits summer vacation, when she can paint plein air scenes filled with the ever-changing landscape from daylight to dark. In winter she captures resplendent snowscapes, figure, and still life.
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Carol Johansen married her high school sweetheart and raised six children in the beautiful Sanpete Valley of rural central Utah. Carol graduated with a bachelor degree from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah and has taught middle school art education for 25 years.
